Aristides is mentioned by Plato at Gorgias, 526b as one of the best Greek statesmen ; yet, at Meno, 94a, he is mentioned, along with Pericles, Themistocles and Thucydides (the general, not the historian), as examples of great men who were unable to teach their virtue to their sons ; and indeed, his son Lysimachus, along with Melesias, son of Thucydides is one of the two fathers looking for a teacher for their sons in the Laches (see Laches, 179a).
