The "tools" section provides historical and geographical context (chronology, maps, entries on characters and locations) for Socrates, Plato and their time. By clicking on the minimap at the beginning of the entry, you can go to a full size map in which the city or location appears. For more information on the structure of entries and links available from them, read the notice at the beginning of the index of persons and locations.

One of the Cyclades Islands, the closest from the shores of Attica, about 15 miles southeast off the tip of Attica (area 3).
Ceos was an Athenian colony founded by Athenian settlers (see Herodotus' Histories, VIII, 46 ; Thucydides' Histories, VII, 57).
The city of Iulis on this island was the birthplace of the lyric poets Simonides and Bacchylides and of the sophist Prodicus.
